Exploring Smart Camera Setup and Device Integration Tips

Hello everyone! I’ve been diving into the world of smart home technology lately, and I wanted to share some of my experiences and questions with the community. It’s been an exciting journey, but also a bit challenging at times. Let’s see if I can get some insights from you all!

First off, I’ve been working on setting up a security camera system around my property. I’ve got some Wyze cameras working well, but I’ve been thinking about adding a few more in trees to cover different angles. I’ve heard about hardwiring cameras, but I’m not entirely sure about the best practices or potential issues. Does anyone have experience with this? I’d love to hear about your setups and any tips you might have!

Speaking of cameras, I’ve also been experimenting with motion sensors and doorbell systems. I’ve got a Blink camera that’s been a bit temperamental—it takes pictures randomly even when there’s no movement. I’ve checked the settings, and everything seems fine, but it’s still happening. Does anyone else have this issue with newer Blink cameras? Also, I’ve noticed that newer models have the Blink logo in the corner, which the older ones don’t. Any idea why that is?

On the device integration front, I’ve been working on connecting my HomeMatic system with some smart switches and sensors. I’ve got a Homematic IP Access Point and some rollershade actuators, and I’ve been trying to set up shade limits. Everything connects perfectly, but the open and close limits are off. I’ve followed the instructions, but I’m not sure if there’s a specific way to adjust these settings. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Another thing I’ve been curious about is using MQTT for device communication. I’ve migrated from openHAB to Home Assistant and am trying to replicate some of the functionality I had before. In openHAB, I used MQTT to send sensor data to a broker, and I’m wondering how to achieve something similar in Home Assistant. If anyone has experience setting up MQTT for device-to-cloud communication, I’d love to hear about your setups!

Lastly, I’ve been exploring the use of custom fields in button cards for my Home Assistant dashboard. I’ve managed to get some basic configurations working, but I’m running into issues with background opacity and random card disappearances. It’s a bit frustrating, but I’m determined to figure it out. Has anyone encountered similar issues, or do you have any troubleshooting tips?

Overall, it’s been a rewarding experience learning about all the possibilities smart home technology offers. I’m excited to continue exploring and improving my setup with the help of this amazing community. Thanks in advance for your insights and suggestions!
