Exploring Smart Doorbell Options Without Cameras

Hi everyone, I’m currently in the market for a smart doorbell, but I have a specific requirement—I don’t want one with a camera. I live in an area with extreme weather conditions, ranging from 110°F in the summer to -30°F in the winter, so durability is key. I’ve been doing some research, but it seems like most smart doorbells come with cameras, which isn’t what I’m looking for.

I stumbled upon a thread suggesting using existing doorbell hardware with a smart button or a contact sensor. This idea is intriguing because it could be a cost-effective solution. However, I’m not entirely sure how to go about wiring this up or ensuring it works seamlessly with my Google Home setup.

I have Wyze cameras installed outside, so security isn’t a concern. My main goal is to have a simple, reliable system that chimes throughout my house and sends a notification to my phone when someone presses the doorbell. I’ve heard about using Monoprice Z-Wave devices or Fibaro Binary sensors, but I’m not sure which would be the best fit.

Has anyone successfully implemented a similar setup? Any tips or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I’m also curious if there are any third-party solutions or DIY projects that could achieve this without breaking the bank. Looking forward to your insights!

I use a regular Zigbee button placed outside linked to an automation that rings a chime and pushes a notification. Simple and works well without needing a camera or hub changes.

I went with https://www.vivint.com/products/doorbell-camera mainly because it integrates well with smart home systems and you can turn off the camera features if you don’t want to use them. I just wanted something that works with existing chimes and doesn’t need extra hubs or complicated setup, and this one fit the bill.
