Exploring Smart Garage Door Integration with Fibaro and Qubino

Hey everyone, I’ve been diving into the world of smart home automation lately, and I wanted to share my recent project with you all. I’ve always been fascinated by the idea of controlling my garage door through my smartphone, and after some research, I decided to give it a try.

I started with an old electrical garage door, which I knew would require some work to bring it into the smart home ecosystem. After doing some research, I came across the Fibaro Door Sensor and the Qubino Relay, which seemed like the perfect combination for this project. The setup involved attaching the Fibaro sensor to the garage door to detect its open and closed states, and then connecting the Qubino Relay to control the door’s motor.

The initial configuration was a bit tricky, but I managed to get everything connected and integrated into my Home Assistant setup. I set up a cover entity in the configuration.yaml file, aiming to control the garage door using simple toggle commands. However, I ran into an issue with the icon_template, which threw an error related to a template syntax. After some troubleshooting and referring to the Home Assistant documentation, I realized I had made a small mistake in the template syntax.

Once I fixed the syntax issue, everything started working smoothly. Now, I can control my garage door with ease, and the status updates in real-time. It’s been a fantastic learning experience, and I’m thrilled with how this project turned out. If anyone has questions or needs help with a similar setup, feel free to reach out! I’d be happy to share more details or tips.

This project has inspired me to explore more smart home automation ideas, and I can’t wait to see what I’ll tackle next. Happy automating everyone!
