Hi everyone! I’ve been diving into the world of smart home automation lately, and it’s been both exciting and a bit overwhelming. I wanted to share some of my experiences and maybe pick up some tips from the community. Starting with Linux and Docker I recently set up Ubuntu on my mini PC and installed Docker and Hass.io. It’s been a great experience so far, but I’m still figuring out the best backup strategies. Right now, I’m backing up my Home directory regularly, but I’m curious if there are other critical folders I should be including. Any suggestions from more experienced Linux users would be appreciated! Home Assistant Automation Fun One of the coolest things I’ve done with Home Assistant is setting up automations based on sunrise and sunset. I have my lights dimming gradually in the evening, which creates such a cozy atmosphere. However, I ran into an issue when using the Movie mode on my TV before sunset. The automation overrides the Movie mode, which is a bit annoying during intense movie scenes. I’d love to see an option to pause or override automations based on current device states. Also, having more flexibility with sunset timing (like adding a 15-minute buffer) would be fantastic! Smart Lighting with Govee I’ve been really impressed with my Govee lights. They’re so versatile and integrate seamlessly with Home Assistant. I was wondering if it’s possible to link them directly to my computer for custom alerts, like channel points on Twitch. It would be awesome to have a direct webhook setup without needing extra software. Community Support It’s amazing how supportive this community is. From troubleshooting tips to sharing creative ideas, everyone here is so helpful. I’m looking forward to contributing more as I learn and grow with my smart home setup. If anyone has tips on Linux backups, automation overrides, or direct light integrations, I’d love to hear them! Let’s keep the smart home journey fun and innovative together! ![]()
