Exploring Smart Home Automation: My Recent Journey and Challenges

Recently, I’ve been diving into the world of smart home automation, and it’s been an exciting yet challenging journey. I wanted to share some of my experiences and seek advice from the community. One of my recent projects was setting up a smart curtain system using a Dooya DT52E controller. While I managed to connect it to my Homey hub, the automation rules I created weren’t working as smoothly as I hoped. I found myself tweaking the rules multiple times, especially when dealing with inconsistent brightness levels. It got me thinking—how can I make the system more responsive without constant adjustments?Another area I’ve been exploring is energy monitoring. I came across the PM1225H energy meter and was intrigued by its capabilities. However, resetting the energy counter via RS-485 Modbus has proven to be a bit tricky. I’m wondering if anyone has successfully done this and could share their approach.Security is another aspect I’ve been focusing on. After reading about vulnerabilities in Bluetooth smart locks, I decided to switch to a more secure system. I’m now considering Yale locks, but I’m curious if others have had success with their automation schedules, especially for unlocking. I’ve noticed that some platforms only allow locking actions, which is a bit limiting.I’d also love to hear about others’ experiences with integrating different smart home devices. For instance, how have you managed to combine Zigbee and Z-Wave devices seamlessly? Any tips on ensuring smooth communication between these protocols would be invaluable.Lastly, I’ve been experimenting with creating custom alerts for temperature changes in my hydro-air heating system. It’s been a learning curve, but I’m hopeful that with the right app or script, I can prevent any issues before they escalate. This journey has been filled with both triumphs and hurdles, and I’m eager to learn from others’ experiences. If anyone has insights, tips, or success stories to share, I’d be grateful to hear them!
