Exploring Smart Home Automation: My Recent Project Journey

Hi everyone, I wanted to share my recent experience with setting up a smart home automation system. It’s been a fascinating journey filled with both challenges and triumphs!

I recently decided to integrate a wall-mounted tablet into my home automation setup. After some research, I came across Fully Kiosk Browser (FKB) and Habpanel, which seemed like perfect tools for the job. FKB’s features, such as remote control and motion detection, really caught my eye. However, I encountered a hiccup when restarting the app—it kept reverting to the local Habpanel configuration despite my efforts to set it to the runtime system on my Raspberry Pi. I’m curious if anyone else has faced this issue and how they resolved it.

On another note, I’ve been exploring the SIA DC-09 protocol for my house alarm system. It’s surprising how limited the support is for this protocol in the smart home ecosystem. I stumbled upon a GitHub repository for an Edge Driver, but I’m not entirely sure how to proceed. If anyone has experience with this or can offer guidance, I’d be incredibly grateful!

I also wanted to mention my experience with Google Calendar integration in Home Assistant. Setting up the OAuth authentication worked smoothly, but I was puzzled when the google_calendars.yaml file didn’t generate automatically. It left me wondering if there’s a bug or if I missed a step in the configuration process. Has anyone else encountered this, and if so, how did you work around it?

Lastly, I’ve been experimenting with ESP32 for HVAC monitoring. Decoding the RS-485 traffic and extracting data has been quite the learning curve. While I’ve managed to decode a few monitoring points, achieving full control requires diving deeper into the protocol. I’d love to hear if anyone has tackled a similar project or has insights to share.

This community is truly amazing, and I’m grateful for the wealth of knowledge and support available. If anyone has tips, tricks, or experiences to share regarding these topics, please do! Let’s continue to innovate and enhance our smart home setups together. :rocket:
