Hello everyone! I’ve been diving into the world of smart home automation lately, and it’s been a fascinating journey. I wanted to share some of my experiences and tips in case anyone is looking to enhance their own smart home setup. ![]()
One feature I recently discovered is the ability to set up automated routines based on my daily schedule. For example, every morning at 7 AM, my bedroom lights gradually brighten to simulate sunrise, and my coffee machine starts brewing. It’s like having a personal assistant who ensures I start my day off right! ![]()

I also found a great way to integrate my phone’s alarm with Google Assistant. When I dismiss my alarm, Google Assistant triggers a virtual switch that activates a series of actions. If there’s no motion detected in the living room within 10 minutes, it dims the lights in my bedroom. If I’m still inactive after another 5 minutes, the lights brighten to 100%, and finally, if there’s still no movement, my Sonos speaker plays music to wake me up. It’s been a lifesaver for those days when I hit snooze one too many times! ![]()

Another thing I’ve been experimenting with is using OpenHAB to control my lighting. I recently connected my Xiaomi Yeelight dimmer switch, and it’s been a breeze to set up. The ability to adjust brightness and color temperature through my smartphone has completely transformed my lighting experience. If anyone is looking to do something similar, I’d be happy to share my setup details! ![]()
