Hey everyone! I’m excited to share my journey with Belkin WeMo and SmartThings. Over the past year, I’ve been using 7 Belkin wall outlet switches and 3 light switches with an Apple AirPort Extreme router, and they’ve worked flawlessly with the Belkin WeMo app. I even set up some IFTTT routines for my front porch light and bedroom lamp using sun up/sundown schedules. It’s been a breeze controlling everything via iOS!
Last week, I decided to give the SmartThings hub a try. The setup was straightforward—plugging it in and connecting to my router. I installed the WeMo Connect SmartThings Labs app, and after a few minutes, the hub found all my WeMo switches. Configuring them in the SmartThings Dashboard was a cinch, and I set up shortcuts for different rooms. But here’s where things got tricky.
While the initial setup was smooth, controlling the switches via the Dashboard hasn’t been reliable. Sometimes the lights turn on immediately, other times they hang on ‘TURNINGON’ or ‘TURNINGOFF’ without completing the command. Refreshing the tile manually is the only way to fix it. It’s frustrating because the Belkin WeMo app has never had these issues. I’m wondering if there’s something I missed in the setup or if there’s a better alternative to WeMo for smoother integration with SmartThings.
I’d love to hear from others who’ve successfully integrated WeMo or other brands with SmartThings. Have you encountered similar issues? What solutions did you find? I’m really hoping it’s just a minor oversight on my part because the potential of this setup is huge!
On a lighter note, I’m also exploring how to use my Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W to create a kiosk mode for Home Assistant. It’s been a fun project, and I can’t wait to share my progress with the community. Thanks for reading, and I look forward to your insights!
