Exploring Smart Home Automation with Keenetic and OpenHAB

I’ve been diving into the world of smart home automation lately, and it’s been an exciting journey! :rocket: I recently set up a network connecting multiple locations using Keenetic routers, and integrating them with Home Assistant has been a fantastic experience. However, I ran into a bit of a snag when trying to connect to remote Keenetic devices. The error message ‘No expected response from server’ kept popping up, which was quite puzzling. After some troubleshooting, I realized that while I could connect via telnet from my local machine, Home Assistant wasn’t able to do the same. It turned out to be a configuration issue, and I’m happy to say I’ve got it sorted now! :tada:

On another note, I’ve been experimenting with OpenHAB to monitor the signal strength of my remote nodes. In OpenHAB 2, I used a rule to update a tag with the signal strength and timestamp, but I’m struggling to replicate this in OpenHAB 3. I’ve tried a few approaches, but nothing seems to stick. If anyone has tips or tricks for this, I’d be thrilled to hear them! :bulb:

One thing I’m particularly excited about is how automation has transformed my daily routine. For instance, setting up motion sensors to control bathroom lights has been a game-changer. It’s not just about convenience—it’s about creating a seamless experience. However, I did have a funny moment when my wife tested the motion sensor in the bathroom. Despite her waving her arms, the lights didn’t turn on! Turns out, the sensor needed a bit more sensitivity tweaking. Murphy’s law at its best, huh?

I’m also looking into ways to integrate my garage door opener with my smart home setup. I’ve heard that Govee lights might interfere with the garage door sensor, so I’m curious if anyone else has experienced this and how they resolved it. Safety and convenience go hand in hand, and I want to make sure everything works flawlessly. :lock:

Lastly, I’ve been exploring the idea of using Siri to control my Home Assistant devices. I’ve come across mentions of Homebridge and Hoobs, but I’m not entirely sure which would be the best fit for my setup. If anyone has experience with these integrations, especially when controlling devices away from home, I’d love to hear about your experiences! :headphones:

All in all, the world of smart home automation is both challenging and rewarding. Every problem solved brings me one step closer to my ideal smart home setup. Here’s to many more adventures in automation! :star2:
