Hey everyone! I’ve been diving into the world of smart home automation lately, and I wanted to share my experiences and some tips I’ve picked up along the way. ![]()
I recently came across the Tuya ZG-204ZM mmWave presence sensor, and it’s been a game-changer for me. I was looking for a battery-powered sensor that could detect motion without relying on wired connections, and this one seemed perfect. However, I had some questions about compatibility with my Hubitat setup. After doing some research and reaching out to the community, I found out that there are drivers available that make it work seamlessly! ![]()
One of the challenges I faced was setting up the sensor to control my lights based on detected motion. I wanted the lights to turn on when motion was detected but also ensure they didn’t stay on unnecessarily. I ended up creating a simple automation using Hubitat’s rules engine. Here’s how I did it:
- Motion Detection: The Tuya sensor detects motion and sends a signal to Hubitat.
- Lux Measurement: I integrated a Hue Light motion sensor to measure the ambient light.
- Conditional Logic: If the lux level drops below a certain threshold (like 10 lux), the lights turn on. If it’s above 50 lux, they stay off. This ensures the lights only come on when needed, saving energy in the process.

I’d love to hear how others are using these sensors and what creative automations they’ve come up with. Have you tried integrating Tuya devices with Hubitat? What challenges did you face, and how did you overcome them? Let’s share our experiences and learn from each other! ![]()
