Exploring Smart Home Automation with Vera and Hubitat

As someone who’s been diving into the world of smart home automation, I’ve found Vera and Hubitat to be incredibly powerful tools for managing my devices. However, there’s a learning curve, and I’ve encountered a few challenges along the way. Let me share some of my experiences and questions with the community.

First, I’ve been experimenting with VeraLite and its integration with Hubitat. Setting up triggers and scenes has been a bit confusing at times. For instance, I’m trying to create a scene where motion sensors in two different rooms trigger a light to turn on. I’ve written some basic LuaUP code, but I’m not entirely sure how to customize alert messages or set precise schedules. Does anyone have tips or resources that could help me understand this better?

Another interesting project I’m working on involves using Vera to control my Z-Wave devices. I’ve noticed that sometimes the hub load becomes elevated, which affects the performance of my rules. I’d love to hear from others who’ve experienced similar issues and how they managed to optimize their setups.

I’ve also been exploring the integration between Vera and Home Assistant (HA). It’s great that Vera devices appear in HA, but I’ve noticed some ghost devices that don’t exist anymore. Manually disabling them isn’t a perfect solution, so I wonder if there’s a more efficient way to handle this.

On the Hubitat side, I’ve been impressed with its rule machine, but there’s one feature I’m missing: the ability to suspend a motion sensor after it’s triggered, similar to how Alexa routines work. I’ve tried setting up a rule where the sensor only activates once, but it keeps resetting if I manually turn off the lights. Any advice on how to achieve this would be appreciated!

Lastly, I’ve been experimenting with LuaUP code to send alerts during specific time intervals. Combining time-based logic with email notifications has been tricky, and I’m hoping the community can offer some guidance on how to structure this code properly.

Overall, I’m enjoying the journey of mastering these platforms, but there’s always more to learn. I’d love to hear from others who’ve faced similar challenges and how they’ve overcome them. Let’s keep the conversation going!
