My goal was to create a seamless system for my roller blinds, and after some research, I decided to go with the Vera Edge paired with a RFXtrx433E Dongle and Somfy Rollup 28 RTS motors. I’ve been looking into automated blinds for a while, and the price always seemed prohibitive. However, this year, I discovered that integrating Somfy motors with Vera Edge could offer a cost-effective solution. The motors themselves are around the £900 mark, which is a significant saving compared to the £3,000 estimate I found last year. I’m currently waiting for my first sensor to arrive, and I’m really looking forward to testing everything out. I’ve been in touch with Vesternet, who have been incredibly helpful. They provided a guide on how to integrate the Somfy motors with Vera Edge, which I’ve been following closely. Their experience is mainly with the Sonesse 40 RTS motor, but they assured me that all Somfy RTS models should work. That’s been a huge confidence booster! Now, onto the challenges. I reached out to two companies for installation. The first company is based 200 miles away but has given me a detailed quote and assurance that the system will work. On the other hand, the second company, while local, isn’t as familiar with the automation aspect and had some doubts about compatibility. They even contacted Somfy directly, and it seems there’s some uncertainty about whether the system will work as intended. I’m now at the point where I need to make a decision. The first company’s expertise in automation is appealing, but the distance and associated costs are a concern. The second company is local and offers a lower price, but their lack of experience with Vera Edge and RFXtrx433E is worrying. I’m leaning towards the first company, but I’d love to hear if anyone else has had a similar experience or can recommend a reliable installer. Another thing I’m curious about is the quietness of the motors. They’re powered by 8 AA batteries, and I’d hate for them to be noisy, especially in a room where peace and quiet are essential. Has anyone else used these motors and can speak to their noise levels? Lastly, I’d love to hear from anyone who has successfully set up roller blinds using the Vera Edge and RFXtrx433E combination. Are there any common issues or teething troubles I should be aware of? Any tips or tricks would be invaluable as I move forward with this project.
