I wanted to share a fun project I recently completed that has brought a lot of joy and functionality to my home office. Inspired by the Amazon Echo Show, I decided to create my own version using some old hardware and a bit of creativity. Here’s how it all came together and how you can do something similar!### The DIY Google Echo ShowI started by repurposing an old laptop screen I had lying around. Using a controller I purchased online, I framed the screen and connected it to a Google Chromecast. The result? A sleek, custom-built device that mirrors the functionality of the Amazon Echo Show but with a Google twist! #### Features of My Creation:- Smart Display: The Chromecast allows me to use any Android or Google TV app, giving me access to a wide range of streaming services.- Google Assistant Integration: I can now control my smart home devices with ease using the Google Assistant through a remote control.- Home Assistant Dashboard: Using the app Dashboard Screen Saver, I replaced the default screen saver with a custom URL pointing to my Home Assistant wall panel. This means I have real-time access to my smart home status right on my desk!### Why I Love This Project1. Cost-Effective: Instead of buying a new device, I reused old hardware, saving money and reducing waste.2. Customizable: The ability to tailor the device to my specific needs has been a huge plus. Whether I want to watch my favorite shows or monitor my home’s status, it’s all accessible in one place.3.
