Hello everyone, I wanted to share my recent experiences with integrating various smart home devices. While away from home, I was alerted by the Wyze app that a pet and package were detected on our front porch. The ‘pet’ turned out to be a nosy Bobcat! It was fascinating to see how the Wyze camera captured such an unexpected visitor. I’ve been using the Wyze cam android app on my Fire TV, which works great with the latest firmware. If you’re looking to set this up, make sure to use a keyboard for navigation. The video quality is impressive, and the app’s performance has been reliable.
Another project I’ve been working on involves connecting an ESP32 module with WLED. Initially, I faced some challenges with the Wi-Fi connection, especially when powering the module without a USB cable. However, after some troubleshooting, I managed to get it working seamlessly. The ESP32 now controls a string of LED lights, which I plan to wrap around my room for a festive touch. I’ve heard that WLED allows for multiple lights to be connected, but I’m still experimenting with the best setup.
I also wanted to mention my experience with the Nuki Smart Lock. The auto-lock feature during night mode is incredibly convenient, but I often wish for more customization options. For instance, adding a timer to delay the auto-lock would be beneficial, especially when I’m moving around the house at night. I’ve seen some community discussions about this and hope it gets implemented soon.
On the topic of smart home integration, I’ve been exploring how to use an iPhone as a presence sensor. While I have a dedicated sensor, integrating my family’s iPhones could provide a more comprehensive system. I’m curious if anyone has successfully implemented this and how reliable it is.
Overall, my journey with smart home devices has been both rewarding and challenging. Each device brings its own set of features and quirks, but the ability to customize and integrate them makes the effort worthwhile. I’m excited to see how these technologies evolve and look forward to sharing more updates as I continue my exploration.
