Exploring Smart Home Integration and Creative Solutions

Hello everyone! I’ve been diving into the world of smart home integration lately, and it’s been a fascinating journey. I wanted to share some of my experiences and insights, as well as ask a few questions to the community.

First, I’ve been exploring the idea of integrating devices from different ecosystems. For instance, I have a Honeywell alarm system that only works with Honeywell devices. However, I’d love to connect it with my Hubitat setup for more versatile automation. I’ve been imagining something like using an ‘OR Logic Gate’ to trigger the siren from either system. Does anyone think this could work? It seems like a creative solution, but I’m not entirely sure how to implement it. Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated!

On another note, I’ve been experimenting with energy monitoring. I recently set up OpenHabian on a Raspberry Pi and started exploring the RFXCOM device for reading multiple protocols. While it’s been a great learning experience, I’m curious if there are better alternatives for energy monitoring. Any recommendations would be welcome!

I also wanted to share a fun project I’ve been working on. I discovered a feature called ‘sunset’ in my lighting setup, which gradually dims the lights over 15 minutes, creating a relaxing ambiance. It’s been a game-changer for my bedtime routine. I’d love to hear if others have similar effects or tips for creating a calming environment.

Another topic I’ve been pondering is the integration of devices like the Panel Server or LINK150 with Power Operation. I’m not sure if there’s an existing device profile for these, and if not, what would be the simplest way to integrate them. Any insights would be incredibly helpful.

Lastly, I’ve been exploring the use of Home Assistant for net energy metering with devices like the Shelly 3EM. While it’s technically possible, I’m curious about the practicality and precision of this approach. Has anyone had success with saldierende Zählung (phase-neutral summing) in Home Assistant? I’d love to hear about your experiences and any tips for optimizing this setup.

This community has always been a wealth of knowledge, and I’m excited to contribute and learn from others. If anyone has advice, recommendations, or stories to share, I’d be thrilled to hear them! Let’s continue to explore and innovate together.
