Exploring Smart Home Integration: My Journey with Nuki and Shelly
Over the past few months, I’ve been diving into the world of smart home integration, and it’s been both exciting and challenging. I wanted to share some of my experiences, particularly with my Nuki Smart Lock Ultra and Shelly devices, in case others might find it helpful or relate to some of the issues I’ve encountered.
Nuki Smart Lock Ultra: A Smooth Installation with a Quirky Glitch
Installing the Nuki Smart Lock Ultra was a breeze. The process was straightforward, and the integration with my existing smart home setup worked seamlessly. However, I did run into an interesting issue recently. Every now and then, when unlocking the door, I hear a peculiar squealing noise from the motor. The latch doesn’t retract fully, leaving the door slightly ajar. After a few seconds, it snaps back into place.
I’ve checked everything mechanically—it seems fine. The latch moves smoothly, and there’s no friction or stiffness. I’ve also recalibrated the lock and ensured the installation is perfect. It’s a bit puzzling, but I suspect it might be a minor motor/gear issue rather than something related to calibration. If anyone else has experienced this, I’d love to hear your thoughts!
Shelly Heating Integration: A Room-Based Control Success Story
On the heating front, I’ve been experimenting with the Shelly WiFi Heaters. After some initial setup hurdles, I’ve found the Mill Heating app for Homey Pro to be a fantastic solution. The room-based control feature has been a game-changer for me. Instead of managing each heater individually, I can control entire zones, which simplifies things tremendously.
One thing I wanted to highlight is the importance of proper device assignment. Ensuring that all my devices are correctly assigned to their respective rooms in the Mill app made a world of difference. It streamlined the control process and eliminated a lot of the confusion I initially had.
