Exploring Smart Home Integration with Raspberry Pi and LG TVs

I’ve been diving into the world of smart home integration lately, and I must say, it’s been an exciting journey! One of my recent projects involves controlling multiple LG flatscreens using a Raspberry Pi. The challenge here is that these TVs don’t have IP or Ethernet ports, so I’m relying on RS-232 serial control. I stumbled upon the openHAB community and their LG serial control binding, which seems like the perfect solution for this setup.

Here’s what I’ve got so far: I’ve positioned the TVs in pairs along a 100ft span, and I’m hoping to use a Raspberry Pi with WiFi and USB-to-serial cables to connect two TVs to one Pi. The central OH server will handle the control, but I’m still figuring out how to bind the LG TVs through the Raspberry Pi’s USB connection. If anyone has experience with a similar setup, I’d love to hear about it!

Another thing I’ve been exploring is the use of rechargeable CR2450 batteries. They seem like a great eco-friendly option, but I’m curious about their performance and longevity compared to traditional alkaline batteries. If anyone has insights or recommendations, please share!

On a lighter note, I’ve also been experimenting with smart lighting solutions. I recently set up a system where my lights adjust based on the time of day and my presence. It’s amazing how such small adjustments can make a big difference in comfort and energy efficiency.

Overall, this journey into smart home automation has been both challenging and rewarding. I’m excited to see how these projects evolve and how I can integrate more devices seamlessly into my setup. If anyone has tips, tricks, or success stories, I’d love to hear them!
