Hi everyone,
I wanted to share my recent experiences with integrating smart lighting and automation into my home. It’s been an exciting journey filled with both triumphs and challenges, and I’d love to hear your thoughts and tips! Starting with Govee Lights I recently purchased a set of Govee RGBIC underglow LEDs for my car and some wall lights for my home. They’ve completely transformed the ambiance, especially during the holidays! The vibrant colors and smooth transitions are simply stunning. My family and I have had so much fun experimenting with different lighting effects, and it’s been a hit during gatherings. HA Integration and Customization I’ve been using Home Assistant (HA) to control these lights, and it’s been a great experience. I’ve set up some simple automations, like dimming the lights in the evening for a more relaxing atmosphere. However, I ran into an interesting issue with the brightness settings. The lights don’t seem to dim below 20% or above 75%, which is a bit limiting. I’ve been trying to figure out how to remap the brightness range so that 0% on my frontend corresponds to 30% on the lights, and 100% shows when the light is at 75%. I came across some resources on using templates for remapping, but I’m still a bit stuck. If anyone has experience with this, I’d love to hear your advice! Exploring Outdoor Lighting Another project I’ve been working on is setting up outdoor lamp post lights. They’ve held up surprisingly well through Minnesota’s harsh winters, with only minor issues like a loose stake. It’s been a great way to enhance the curb appeal of my home while keeping energy usage in check. Community and Collaboration I’ve also been inspired by seeing others share their creative DIY projects and tips. It’s amazing how a little bit of customization can make such a big difference. For example, I saw someone use a Raspberry Pi and some clever scripting to automate their lighting based on solar production. It’s made me think about how I could integrate similar logic into my setup to optimize energy usage. Looking Ahead As I continue to explore the world of smart home automation, I’m excited to dive deeper into more complex projects. Whether it’s setting up more advanced automations or experimenting with different lighting effects, there’s always something new to learn. I’m also curious about how others have integrated multiple brands and devices into a cohesive system. Any tips or recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Thanks to everyone for your contributions and support. It’s communities like this that make the journey so rewarding! ![]()
