Exploring Smart Lighting Automation for Christmas

As the holiday season approaches, I’ve been diving into the world of smart lighting automation to create a festive atmosphere. I recently set up an automation using Home Assistant to control my Christmas lights, and I’m excited to share my experience and see if anyone has tips to make it even better!

I’ve been using AppDaemon for my automations, but I decided to give HA automation a try this year. My setup includes two timers: one that keeps the lights on all night and another that turns them off in the middle of the night but switches back on in the morning. I’ve also added input booleans to control the automation and the timers directly from the control panel.

Here’s a quick overview of how I structured it:

  1. Timers: One runs all night, while the other turns off during the early hours and back on for the morning.
  2. Input Booleans: These allow me to easily control the automation and the timers from the dashboard.
  3. Automation Triggers: The lights turn on at sunset and off at sunrise, with additional triggers for specific times.

I’d love to hear if there’s a more efficient way to set this up or if anyone has creative ideas for adding music or sequencing to the lights. Happy holidays to everyone, and here’s to making our homes shine this season! :christmas_tree::sparkles:
