As a homeowner with a growing interest in smart lighting, I’ve been experimenting with the “Mirror” behavior across different setups in my home. My journey began with a simple goal: to create a seamless and intuitive lighting experience that syncs across multiple devices and platforms. Here’s what I’ve discovered and how I’ve navigated the challenges along the way.### The SetupI’ve implemented the “Mirror” behavior in three distinct scenarios:1. Hallway Lighting: A GE Zigbee dimmer paired with a GLEDOpto RGBW strip.2. Living Room: A virtual lighting device mirrored with a Logitech Harmony activity and a Cree Connected bulb.3. Bedroom: A GE Zigbee dimmer paired with two Cree Connected bulbs and a Logitech Harmony activity.### The Experience- Hallway Lighting: This setup works as expected. Turning the dimmer on or off directly controls the GLEDOpto strip, providing a consistent and reliable experience. However, if I manually adjust the strip via the app, the dimmer doesn’t mirror the change, which is a minor inconvenience. - Living Room: This is my most successful setup. The virtual device and Harmony activity remain perfectly in sync, allowing me to control the lights seamlessly from either interface. This consistency is exactly what I hoped for.- Bedroom: This setup has been the most challenging. While the GE dimmer successfully controls the bulbs, the Harmony activity doesn’t respond as expected. Turning off the dimmer sometimes causes the bulbs to flicker back on, creating an unpredictable experience. To mitigate this, I’ve had to switch to a “Turn On (and also Off)” behavior, which stabilizes the system but feels like a workaround.### Questions and Reflections- What Defines “Mirror” Behavior? I’m curious to understand the exact intended functionality of the “Mirror” behavior. Is it designed for one-way or two-way syncing? - Compatibility with GE Zigbee Dimmers: Why does the GE dimmer work seamlessly with one setup but not another? Is there an underlying incompatibility or configuration issue?- Cree Bulbs and Virtual Devices: The inconsistent response of Cree bulbs when mirroring a GE dimmer versus a virtual device is puzzling. What causes this discrepancy?### Looking AheadMy ultimate goal is to have the GE dimmer and Harmony activity remain perfectly in sync, ensuring the bedroom lights respond reliably to either control. I’d prefer not to rely on a virtual device due to its cloud dependency, especially in case of internet outages. If anyone has insights or solutions to these challenges, I’d be grateful for your input. It’s been a fascinating journey exploring the capabilities and limitations of smart lighting, and I’m eager to continue learning and refining my setup.Thank you for your time and any advice you can offer!
