Exploring Smart Lighting Color Accuracy

I’ve recently been diving into the world of smart lighting, and I must say, it’s been an exciting journey! One of the features that really drew me in was the ability to customize colors to match my mood or the time of day. However, I’ve encountered an interesting challenge that I wanted to share and see if others have experienced something similar.

I own a set of Hue bulbs, which I’ve heard are known for their excellent color reproduction. I decided to program some scenes using the Hue app, capturing the exact colors I wanted for different times of the day. The process seemed straightforward enough—dumping the scene data and integrating it into my automation setup. But here’s where things got a bit puzzling.

When I executed the dumped function to recreate the scenes, the colors didn’t quite match what I had programmed. For instance, a warm yellow shade ended up being more on the red side. I double-checked the values, and they seemed consistent. The hue and saturation levels were almost identical, but the actual color output was different. This inconsistency was a bit frustrating, especially since I was aiming for precise control.

Upon closer inspection, I noticed that the color mode in the state data sometimes changed from HS to XY. I did a bit of research and found that different devices might interpret color spaces differently, which could explain the discrepancy. It’s a bit technical, but I’m curious if others have faced similar issues or have tips on ensuring consistent color output across devices.

I’ve also tried adjusting the color modes manually to see if that helps, but it’s been a bit hit or miss. It would be fantastic to hear from those who have successfully programmed and maintained consistent colors in their setups. Any insights or best practices would be greatly appreciated!

In the meantime, I’ll keep experimenting and tweaking the settings. It’s all part of the learning process, and I’m excited to see how I can refine my setup for even better results. Thanks in advance for any advice or experiences you’re willing to share!
