I’ve been diving into the world of smart lighting lately, and it’s been quite an adventure! 
I recently decided to integrate a mix of Philips Hue, LIFX, and Sengled bulbs into my home setup, and while the idea of having a unified smart lighting system is exciting, the reality has been a bit more complex than I anticipated. Let me share my experiences and some tips I’ve picked up along the way!
First off, compatibility has been both a blessing and a challenge. While most of my Hue bulbs work seamlessly with Alexa and Google Home, the LIFX bulbs have required a bit more tweaking. I found that using the IFTTT applet was a lifesaver for creating custom routines that work across different brands. For example, I set up a routine where turning off the lights in one room automatically dims the lights in the adjacent room—perfect for late-night walks!
One thing I’ve noticed is that not all bulbs handle color temperatures the same way. My LIFX bulbs, for instance, have a wider range of color settings compared to the Hue ones. After a bit of research, I realized that the issue was with how the bulbs were grouped in my smart home app. By creating separate groups for each brand and assigning unique names, I was able to get consistent voice control across all my bulbs. It might seem like a minor fix, but it made a world of difference!
I also wanted to share a tip for anyone looking to integrate multiple lighting brands into their home. Take the time to test each bulb’s responsiveness with your preferred voice assistant before setting up any complex routines. This simple step can save you a lot of frustration down the line!
