Hey everyone, I’m really excited to share my journey with smart lighting and automations. I recently started exploring options for my living room and came across some great discussions about LIFX and Hue bulbs. From what I’ve read, LIFX seems to offer brighter and truer colors, which would be perfect for my setup. However, I’m also concerned about reliability and not wanting to add another hub to my collection. I currently have TCP, Smartthings, and Arlo hubs, so minimizing hubs is a priority for me. I’m leaning towards starting with 4 bulbs, which seems manageable both in terms of cost and setup.
On the automation front, I’ve been experimenting with Node-RED to control my heating system. I set up a schedule that ramps the temperature up and down throughout the day, which is much more energy-efficient than traditional on/off scheduling. However, I’m facing a challenge with manual overrides. When I adjust the temperature manually, the schedule continues to run, which isn’t ideal. I’d love to find a way to toggle between manual and scheduled modes without cluttering my dashboard with multiple switches.
Another area I’m exploring is integrating sensors. I recently acquired a Z-Wave motion sensor and am curious about its compatibility with Vera Edge. I’m also on the lookout for reliable bulbs that can work seamlessly with Vera Edge. If anyone has recommendations or tips, I’d be thrilled to hear them!
I’m also looking into using MQTT for more advanced automation. I stumbled upon the MQTT Explorer Addon and it seems like a powerful tool for debugging and managing MQTT messages. I’m planning to set it up soon to better understand how my devices communicate.
Overall, I’m really enjoying the process of building out my smart home, even with the occasional bumps along the way. It’s amazing how much control and customization I can achieve with the right setup. I can’t wait to see how much further I can take this project!
