I’ve been diving into the world of smart lighting lately, and I must say, it’s been quite an adventure!
As someone who’s always looking for ways to enhance comfort and efficiency in my home, I decided to consolidate all my lighting controls under a single system. I have a mix of IKEA Tradfri, Limitless LED, and Philips Hue bulbs, and I’m currently experimenting with Home Assistant using a Sonoff Zigbee dongle and ZHA. So far, it’s been mostly smooth sailing, but there’s one hiccup I can’t seem to resolve.
The issue revolves around the Hue bulb in my guest bedroom. Previously, I had it set up with a Hue bridge, and I loved how it would power on to a warm, dimmed setting. Now that I’ve transitioned to Home Assistant, I’ve configured the start-up behavior to mimic that exact setting. However, the bulb seems to have a mind of its own. It alternates between two different brightness and color temperature settings every time it’s powered on and off. At first, it goes to about 50% brightness with a cool white tone, and the next time, it jumps to full brightness with a warm white. This flip-flopping behavior is quite perplexing, and I’m at a loss for why it’s happening.
I’ve double-checked the settings in Home Assistant, and they seem to be saved correctly. I’ve also reviewed the cluster attributes under the Zigbee device management, and everything looks in order. Is there something I’m missing here? Could it be a firmware issue, or perhaps a quirk with the bulb itself? I’d love to hear from anyone who’s encountered a similar problem or has any insights on how to get the bulb to respect the start-up settings consistently.
On a lighter note, I’ve been absolutely thrilled with how Home Assistant has streamlined my lighting controls. It’s amazing how a little tweak can make such a big difference in the overall ambiance of a room. I can’t wait to see what other possibilities this system unlocks as I continue to explore its capabilities!
Cheers to all the fellow smart home enthusiasts out there!
