Hi everyone, I’m new to the world of smart home automation and I’m excited to share my journey as I transform my kitchen lighting. I’ve recently set up my first Hubitat hub and I’m eager to dive into some projects. My first challenge is upgrading the lighting in my kitchen cabinets, and I’m hoping to get some inspiration and advice from the community.
Currently, I have three sets of lights in my kitchen: under-cabinet lighting, over-cabinet lighting, and puck lights inside the cabinets. The under-cabinet lights are 110V incandescent bulbs, and while they provide adequate light, they’re not energy-efficient and tend to get quite hot. The over-cabinet lights are also incandescent, and I’d love to replace them with something that offers more flexibility, maybe even some RGBW options for ambiance. Lastly, the puck lights inside the cabinets are problematic—they run hot and the bulbs burn out frequently. The wiring is tight and inaccessible, so I’m not sure how to approach this yet.
I’ve been researching smart lighting solutions and I’m leaning towards replacing the under-cabinet lights with dimmable white LED strips. This would not only save energy but also provide a softer, more modern lighting option. For the over-cabinet lights, I’m considering RGBW LED strips that could add a fun touch to my kitchen, especially during parties or special occasions. I’m curious if anyone has experience with integrating music-syncing features into their lighting setup—something that would make the lights dance to the beat of my music!
As for the puck lights inside the cabinets, I’m a bit stuck. The tight wiring makes it difficult to replace them, so I’m wondering if there are any smart puck lights that are designed for such spaces or if there’s a workaround to make them more efficient and durable. I’m also considering whether wireless options might be a viable solution here.
I’ve attached a quick diagram of my current setup to give a better visual understanding. I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences with similar projects. Have you tackled something like this before? What solutions did you find effective? I’m especially interested in hearing about any challenges you faced and how you overcame them. Looking forward to your insights and recommendations!
Thanks in advance for your help! I’m excited to get started and can’t wait to see how this project unfolds.
