Exploring Smart Lighting Solutions with Zigbee and Dali

As someone with an IT background, I’m excited to share my journey in designing a smart lighting system for my newly built apartment. My goal is to create a setup similar to KNX systems, featuring button switches that aren’t directly wired to the lights, allowing for flexible control over multiple lights and blinds.

I’ve been considering Zigbee and KNX systems, along with Dali for lighting control. While Zigbee offers more open-source solutions and cost-effectiveness, KNX provides a robust, albeit pricier, alternative. I’m curious about the feasibility of connecting multiple lights using a single Dali controller and how it can integrate with OpenHab.

My setup includes a long RGBWW LED strip, shorter strips, dimmable bulbs, an LED panel light, electric blinds, and smart wall outlets. I plan to use button switches that can be reconfigured to control different devices, avoiding the need for direct wiring.

I’ve explored the idea of using Zigbee buttons powered by wire and connecting them to a Dali system. However, I’m unsure about the hardware requirements and compatibility with OpenHab. Any insights or recommendations from the community would be invaluable as I move forward with this project.

Thank you for your time and assistance!
