Hey everyone, I wanted to share a bit about my journey in setting up smart sensors for home safety, specifically for my elderly wife who has had some mobility challenges in the past. This is a topic that’s close to my heart, and I hope sharing my experiences might help others in similar situations.
A few years back, my wife had a serious fall in the basement, which was a wake-up call for me. Since then, I’ve been on a mission to make our home as safe as possible. Initially, I tried using a Samsung smart button at the bottom of the stairs, but it turned out to be too battery-hungry—needing new batteries every month. That’s when I decided to switch to a Fibaro button, which has been much more reliable in terms of battery life.
The challenge now is ensuring that I get an alert regardless of how many times the button is pressed. My wife might press it once or multiple times in a panic, and I want to make sure I receive the alert every time. I’ve been exploring ways to configure the automation rules to trigger alerts whether it’s a single press or multiple presses. If anyone has experience with similar setups or tips on how to achieve this, I’d be grateful for the advice!
Another area I’ve been looking into is presence sensors, especially for toddlers. I’ve come across some great multi-season options, but I’m curious about others’ experiences. What brands or models have worked well for you in detecting movements and ensuring safety without false alarms?
I’d also love to hear about anyone’s experiences with integrating different smart devices, like Zigbee switches or motion sensors, into a cohesive system. For instance, I’ve been experimenting with Ikea motion sensors, but sometimes they show up as placeholders in the system, which is a bit confusing. Any insights on troubleshooting that would be fantastic!
Lastly, I’ve been thinking about upgrading our bathroom with a high-quality showerhead that offers multiple streams and the convenience of both overhead and handheld options. While not a smart device, it’s about enhancing comfort and accessibility. I’ve seen the Aquadance model being recommended, but I’m open to other suggestions too.
This journey has been a mix of learning, trial and error, and a lot of gratitude for the community support. I’m excited to hear your thoughts and experiences on these topics!
