Hello everyone, I hope you’re all doing well! I’m thrilled to share my journey with smart home technology, particularly with OpenHAB and SmartThings. As a newcomer, I’ve been exploring how to integrate various devices into a seamless ecosystem, and it’s been quite an adventure.
My Setup and Challenges
I started with OpenHAB on a Raspberry Pi, incorporating several Shelly components. The setup has been smooth so far, but I encountered an interesting challenge with a Shelly 2.5 device used for roller shutters. Despite configuring it as a WindowCovering in HomeKit, it consistently appears as a Window. I’ve retried the mapping multiple times, but the issue persists. I wonder if there’s a workaround or if others have faced a similar issue.
Moving on to SmartThings, I came across a fascinating project integrating facial recognition using AWS Rekognition. The idea of turning a Raspberry Pi into a smart doorbell is intriguing, and I’m curious about the potential applications beyond security. However, I’m still exploring how to implement this without overwhelming my current setup.
Experiments and Learnings
I’ve also been experimenting with Wyze cameras, particularly their battery life. One camera lasts only a week, which is inconvenient. I’m looking for tips to optimize battery usage without compromising functionality. Additionally, I’ve been trying to troubleshoot issues with my Echo Dot, which occasionally struggles to access local radio stations. It’s frustrating, especially since my older Echo handled it effortlessly.
Seeking Advice
I’m eager to hear from the community about these challenges. Has anyone successfully resolved the Shelly 2.5 mapping issue? Any advice on prolonging Wyze camera battery life would be invaluable. Also, if anyone has insights into the Echo Dot’s radio access problem, I’d be grateful for any suggestions.
Looking Ahead
As I continue my smart home journey, I’m excited to explore more integrations and automation possibilities. The support and shared experiences from this community are invaluable, and I’m looking forward to contributing and learning together.
Thank you for reading, and I look forward to your insights and advice!
