Hey everyone, I’m diving into the world of smart home audio and wanted to share my journey and some insights. I recently decided to switch from Heos to Sonos for my music setup, but I wanted to maintain the seamless integration I had with my Denon X3600H AV receiver. The Heos system allowed me to control the receiver’s power and volume directly from my phone, which was a huge convenience. However, with Sonos, I knew I’d need a different approach, especially since the Sonos Port doesn’t offer the same level of control over external receivers.
I started exploring Home Assistant automations as a potential solution. The idea was to trigger the Denon receiver to turn on and switch to the correct input when media starts playing on the Sonos Port. I also wondered if I could manage the volume through Home Assistant, even if it wasn’t as direct as with Heos. I set up some basic automations using Home Assistant’s event listeners and state changes, and it’s been working surprisingly well!
For example, when I start playing music on my Sonos system, the automation kicks in, turning on the Denon receiver and switching it to the right input. While I haven’t fully integrated volume control yet, being able to manage the receiver’s state through Home Assistant has been a great compromise. I’d love to hear if anyone else has tackled a similar setup or has tips on improving the integration further. It’s been a fun project, and I’m excited to see how I can expand it in the future!
