Exploring the Benefits of Amanda Backup for OpenHAB

Hi everyone! I’ve been exploring Amanda Backup for my OpenHAB setup and wanted to share my experiences and questions with the community. I’ve successfully set up Amanda to back up my NAS using an NFS share, and while everything seems to be working smoothly, I have a few doubts I’d love to clarify.

Firstly, I’m backing up specific OpenHAB configuration files every night to a USB stick. However, I’d like to take this a step further by replacing my current system offline backups with Amanda. My goal is to avoid taking the system offline for full SD card images. Is this feasible with Amanda? If so, how can I enable this feature?

I’ve also been wondering about the comprehensiveness of my backup strategy. The files I’m currently backing up include /etc/openhab2 and /var/lib/openhab2. Are these the only folders I need to restore a completely crashed system, or should I consider additional directories to ensure a full recovery?

Another thing I’m curious about is whether Amanda can handle RAW SD card backups. If it can, what steps do I need to take to set this up? I’d appreciate any guidance or best practices from those who have experience with Amanda in similar setups.

I’m really excited about the potential Amanda offers for streamlining my backups, but I want to make sure I’m covering all bases to protect my system effectively. Any insights or recommendations would be invaluable!

Looking forward to hearing from you all!
