I’m Erwin, and I’m thrilled to share my journey of setting up a new Home Assistant system. As someone who’s been using smart home technology for years, I’m excited to dive into this project and learn from your experiences.
My Setup:
I’ve decided to keep my existing Z-Wave and Q-Wave devices, which have served me well over the years. However, I’m now looking to integrate them seamlessly into Home Assistant. My goal is to start with the “HA green” setup, which I understand is a lightweight version of Home Assistant perfect for testing and learning.

Z-Wave Controller Recommendations: I’ve heard that not all Z-Wave controllers are created equal. Could you recommend a controller that works well with Home Assistant? I’ve been looking at the official documentation, but I’d love your firsthand experiences.

Q-Wave Integration: I’m curious about how Q-Wave devices integrate with Home Assistant. Is there a specific controller or method I should be using? Any tips or resources would be invaluable.

Range Extenders: My home spans three floors, and I want to ensure that all my devices can communicate effectively. Are there any range extenders or repeaters you’d recommend for Home Assistant? I’ve heard about some that can boost signal strength, but I’m not sure which ones are best.
My Vision:
I imagine a future where all my devices work together harmoniously, automating tasks and enhancing my daily life. Whether it’s turning on lights as I enter a room or adjusting the thermostat based on my schedule, I’m eager to make this vision a reality.

I’ve been impressed by the flexibility and customization options Home Assistant offers. Unlike some proprietary systems, it allows me to integrate a wide range of devices and create automations tailored to my needs. Plus, the active community and wealth of resources make it a great platform for learning and growing.
