As a long-time Home Assistant user, I’m thrilled to dive into the latest release, version 2024.11. The updates this time around are packed with exciting features, especially the new dashboard sections that have graduated out of experimental status. I’ve been experimenting with converting my existing dashboards into the new format, and it’s been a fascinating process!
One of the standout features for me is the ability to drag and drop cards seamlessly. I’ve always struggled with the layout on my phone, and this new approach makes it so much easier to customize. The low-latency camera streams using WebRTC are another huge improvement—no more buffering or lag when I check in on my security cameras!
I’ve also been exploring the live streaming logs feature. It’s incredibly helpful to have real-time logs without switching contexts. I’ve already caught a few minor issues that I wouldn’t have noticed otherwise. The Home Assistant Voice updates are a nice touch too—I’m looking forward to seeing how this integrates with my daily routines.
Of course, with any major update, there are a few hiccups. I noticed that some of my custom integrations took a bit longer to load initially, but after a quick restart, everything smoothed out. I’d recommend everyone to thoroughly check their backward-incompatible changes before updating, just to be safe.
Overall, the 2024.11 release is a solid update that continues to push the boundaries of what Home Assistant can do. I’m excited to see how this evolves in the future and can’t wait to try out more features as I continue to tweak my setup.
