Exploring the Potential of Hand Gesture Recognition with Aqara Camera Hub G3

I recently purchased the Aqara Camera Hub G3 and have been experimenting with its integration into my Home Assistant setup. One feature that caught my attention is the hand gesture recognition capability of the camera. I’m eager to leverage this feature to trigger automations within Home Assistant, but I’m currently stuck on how to detect these gestures within the platform.

Here’s a bit about my setup: I’m running Home Assistant in a Docker container on an Ubuntu Linux server. The Aqara Camera Hub G3 is connected directly via LAN, and I can see the video feed and motion sensor data in Home Assistant. However, I’m unable to access the gesture recognition data. I’ve verified that the camera can recognize hand gestures through the Aqara app on my iPhone, and I can even create simple automations within the app. But my goal is to extend this functionality to Home Assistant for more comprehensive automation control.

I’ve done some research and found a Reddit thread suggesting that this might not be possible, but I’m hopeful that there’s a workaround or a method I haven’t discovered yet. I’ve also posted this question on the Home Assistant and Aqara subreddits, and I’ll be sure to cross-reference any solutions found there.

If anyone has experience with integrating hand gesture recognition from the Aqara Camera Hub G3 into Home Assistant, or if you have any insights or workarounds, I’d greatly appreciate your input. Let’s see if we can unlock this feature together!

Thanks,
Peter
