Exploring the Potential of Virtual Switches with Additional Properties

Hello fellow smart home enthusiasts! I’ve been diving into the world of virtual switches lately, and I must say, it’s been quite an enlightening journey. As someone who loves automating daily routines, I’ve discovered a feature that could really streamline my smart home setup—virtual switches with additional properties from other devices.

Let me walk you through my experience. I recently set up a virtual switch named “Arm Vacuum” using SmartThings. When toggled ON, it triggers my vacuum to start at 2AM. This has been working seamlessly through webCore, and I couldn’t be happier. However, I noticed something that could make this setup even better.

I have two tiles in ActionTiles for my vacuum: one displays the battery level, and the other is the virtual “Arm Vacuum” switch. Combining these into one tile would be ideal, but unfortunately, it’s not possible currently. So, I decided to explore creating a new virtual device that could both toggle the vacuum and display its battery level. This way, I’d have all the information I need in one place.

After some research and experimentation, I found that creating a virtual device with multiple properties is achievable, though it requires a bit of setup. I’m hopeful that ActionTiles will support this feature in the future, allowing for a more integrated and user-friendly experience.

This journey has taught me the importance of exploring and customizing smart home devices to fit my specific needs. It’s amazing how a little creativity and problem-solving can enhance the functionality of your setup. If anyone has tips or experiences to share on virtual devices or ActionTiles, I’d love to hear them!

Happy automating! :star2:
