Exploring the Potential of Wyze Cam Pan's Pan Scan Feature

Recently, I’ve been experimenting with the Wyze Cam Pan and its Pan Scan feature, which is supposed to expand the monitoring area by rotating the camera to preset waypoints. While the concept sounds fantastic, I’ve encountered a significant issue that’s making it less effective than anticipated.

The problem arises when the camera rotates between waypoints. It seems to detect motion caused by its own movement, triggering unnecessary recordings. This not only fills up my storage quickly but also makes it challenging to capture actual events. For instance, during the day, the camera is constantly recording, which defeats the purpose of having it as a reliable surveillance tool.

I understand that the Pan Scan feature is a fantastic addition, but the inability to distinguish between motion caused by the camera’s rotation and actual moving objects is a major drawback. I hope Wyze can address this in a future firmware update, perhaps by temporarily disabling motion detection during the camera’s rotation or improving the motion tracking algorithm to filter out such movements.

In the meantime, I’ve resorted to turning off the Pan Scan feature to avoid the constant recordings. It’s a shame because the potential of this feature is huge, and with a little tweak, it could truly be a game-changer for monitoring larger areas. I’m curious to hear if others have experienced the same issue or if there’s a workaround I haven’t discovered yet. Let’s keep the conversation going and hopefully find a solution together!
