Hi everyone! I’ve been diving into the world of Z-Wave devices lately and wanted to share an interesting discovery I made while experimenting with my setup. I recently purchased some Zooz sensors during a Black Friday sale and decided to integrate them into my existing Z-Wave network. To my surprise, I stumbled upon a method to switch a Z-Wave device from a Device Type Handler (DTH) to an Edge driver without excluding it first. This was unexpected but turned out to be quite effective!
Here’s a quick rundown of my process:
- Scan Nearby: I put my hub into scan nearby mode to detect any new devices in the vicinity.
- Toggle the Switch: I manually toggled the switch of the device I wanted to convert.
- New Device Detection: A new device appeared in my system, which initially confused me as I thought it might be a neighbor’s device.
- Force Delete and Repair: After some research, I force-deleted the old device through the Groovy IDE and ran a Z-Wave repair. This helped stabilize the connection and ensure the new device was recognized properly.
I tested this method on a couple of other switches, and it worked consistently! While I’m not entirely sure if this is the intended behavior, it seems to hold up without causing any issues in my setup. I’d love to hear if others have had similar experiences or if there are any potential drawbacks I should be aware of.
This discovery has opened up new possibilities for me in terms of device integration and customization. It’s amazing how tweaking these settings can lead to such positive outcomes! If anyone has tried something similar or has tips on optimizing this process, I’d be thrilled to hear about it.
Happy tinkering everyone! ![]()
