Hey everyone, I’m diving into the world of OpenHAB and trying to wrap my head around some of its powerful features. One thing I’ve been really curious about is creating timer-like rules or polling mechanisms. I’ve got this lamp that I want to turn off after 5 minutes, but I also want it to check certain conditions every minute to decide whether it should stay off or not. It’s a bit of a puzzle, but I’m excited to figure it out!
I’ve heard that delayed cronjob-like rules might be the way to go, but I’m not entirely sure how to set that up. If anyone has experience with this, I’d love to hear your thoughts or any tips you might have. It would be awesome to make this work without resorting to kludges like expire-timers!
On another note, I’ve been trying to integrate multiple devices from different brands into my setup. It’s been a bit of a challenge, but also super rewarding. I’d love to hear about others’ experiences with device integration and how they’ve managed to create seamless workflows across different ecosystems. Any success stories or lessons learned would be invaluable!
Lastly, I’ve been experimenting with automation rules to streamline my daily routines. For instance, I’d love to create a Good Night Routine that checks door sensors, water sensors, garage doors, and locks. If everything’s secure, it should confirm that; if not, it should notify me. It’s a bit ambitious, but I think it’s doable with the right setup. If anyone has a similar routine or tips on how to structure the rules, I’d be grateful for the advice!
Thanks in advance for your insights and experiences. Let’s keep learning and improving together!
