I’ve been using Wyze cameras for a while now, and I must say, they’ve been a fantastic addition to my smart home setup. From the OG cams to the newer V2 and V3 models, I’ve had a great experience with their time lapse feature. It’s been a breeze to download these time lapse videos directly to my phone, and I’ve been able to transfer them to my computer for storage using my Android device’s USB cable. However, I’ve come across a peculiar issue with the OG cams that I’m hoping the community can help me with.
For the V2, V3, and Pan Cam models, transferring the time lapse videos is straightforward. I simply connect my phone to my computer, browse through the DCIM folder structure, and locate the specific folders for each camera. These folders are neatly organized by the camera’s MAC address, making it easy to find the time lapse files. But when it comes to the OG cams, things get a bit tricky. Despite a thorough search of both my phone’s internal storage and SD card, I can’t seem to find the time lapse files in the DCIM folder. This is perplexing because I can play the time lapses without any issues in the Wyze app.
I’ve reached out to Wyze support, and they mentioned saving the videos directly from the app. However, I’m not seeing a clear “Save” option in the app’s interface. Instead, I’m met with a list of apps like Messages, Google Drive, and others, which isn’t very helpful for transferring large files like these. I’ve tried using the global search function on my phone to locate the files, and once, I found them buried deep within a folder structure under Android > data > com.hualai > Files > Movies > DCIM > wyze > gpid_<16 digits> > Timelapse. But this hasn’t been consistent, and the latest time lapse files from the past few days are nowhere to be found.
I’m wondering if there’s a more reliable method to locate and transfer these files. Maybe there’s a hidden folder or a specific app that can help me access them more easily. I’d love to hear from anyone who’s had success with this, especially since I’m on the latest firmware for both my OG cams and the Wyze app. Let’s hope we can figure this out together!
