Hello everyone! I’ve been diving into the world of Z-Wave for quite some time now, and I’m really excited to share my journey and some questions I’ve come across. I started with a Raspberry Pi 4, a Z-Stick Gen5+, and a Zigbee stick, and honestly, it’s been a fantastic learning experience. However, as my smart home setup grows, I’m considering an upgrade to a NUC for better performance and stability.
One of the big questions I’ve been pondering is whether I should stick with my current Z-Stick Gen5+ or make the leap to the latest Gen7. I’ve heard wonderful things about the improved range and reliability of Gen7, but I’m not entirely sure if upgrading is worth it just yet. From what I understand, upgrading from Gen5 to Gen7 isn’t a seamless process. Do I need to relearn all my devices, or is there a smoother way to transition? I’d love to hear from those who’ve made the switch—what were your experiences, and would you recommend it?
I’ve also come across some concerns about compatibility and potential downtime during the configuration process. With my current setup running smoothly, I’m a bit hesitant to disrupt things. However, the promise of better performance is tempting. If anyone has tips on minimizing downtime or ensuring a smooth transition, I’d be grateful for the advice!
Lastly, I’ve heard there might be plans to consolidate configuration tools, which would be fantastic. It’s a bit overwhelming having to juggle multiple tools for device configuration. If there’s a way to simplify this process, that would make the upgrade even more appealing.
I’m really looking forward to hearing your thoughts and experiences. Whether you’ve upgraded already or are considering it, your insights would be invaluable! Thanks for sharing your knowledge and helping me make an informed decision.
