Exploring Z-Wave Range and OpenHAB Setup

I’ve been diving into the world of Z-Wave devices and OpenHAB lately, and I wanted to share some of my experiences and questions with the community. First off, I’m looking to relocate my Z-Wave hub, router, and Raspberry Pi to an upstairs room. However, I’m a bit concerned about how this might affect the range of my Z-Wave devices. Has anyone experienced issues with device detection after moving their hub? I’d love to hear about any tricks or insights you’ve picked up along the way!

Another topic I’ve been exploring is the integration of RGBW lights with Hubitat. I’ve come across a few recommendations for WLED controllers, but I’m not entirely sure which one would work best with my setup. If anyone has had success with a particular controller, I’d be grateful for the heads-up!

On the OpenHAB front, I’ve recently retired and decided to dive into home automation as a new hobby. I’ve managed to set up OpenHAB on my Synology NAS using Java 8 and the Z-Wave bindings. I’ve also got a Aeotec Z-Stick Gen5 (ZW090) connected, but I’m stuck on figuring out the serial port details. The NAS recognizes the stick, but I’m not sure how to pinpoint the exact port number. I’ve installed Visual Studio Code, but I’m not certain how it ties into this process. Any guidance would be fantastic!

Lastly, I’ve been experimenting with virtual switches in Hubitat and noticed some odd behavior. Occasionally, clicking a switch doesn’t seem to register it as “on,” even though the log shows the event. It’s a bit perplexing, and I’d appreciate any advice on how to troubleshoot this.

If anyone has tips or solutions for these issues, I’d be thrilled to hear them. Let’s keep the conversation flowing!
