I’ve been diving into the world of smart outdoor lighting lately, and it’s been quite an adventure! I recently acquired a GE/Jasco Outdoor Outlet, which I’m excited to integrate into my existing smart home setup. This outlet, part of the Z-Wave Plus ecosystem, offers weather-resistant functionality, making it perfect for my seasonal lighting needs. However, getting it recognized by my hub has been a bit of a puzzle. I reached out to the community for help, and the support I received was invaluable.
Meanwhile, I’ve also been exploring the integration of ZigBee devices, particularly the OSRAM LIGHTIFY Outdoor Flex RGBW. It’s amazing how these devices can transform my outdoor space with customizable lighting. I’ve been experimenting with both the Hue and deconz bindings in openHAB, and while both have their merits, I’m still trying to figure out which one offers the best experience for my setup. The Hue binding seems more straightforward for now, especially after some initial hiccups with deconz.
Another project I’m working on involves setting up motion sensors to notify me when my pets are near the house. I’ve been using Shelly devices for this, and they’ve been a joy to work with. However, I’m still tweaking the automation rules to ensure they’re not too intrusive. It’s all about finding that perfect balance between convenience and peace of mind.
I’d love to hear from others who have successfully integrated outdoor lighting and motion detection into their smart homes. What challenges did you face, and how did you overcome them? Any tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated! ![]()
