Hello everyone, I recently decided to expand my smart home setup by adding a few new Zigbee devices. While I’ve had some success with my existing setup, I’ve encountered a few bumps along the way that I’d like to share and hopefully get some advice on.
I started with a Vera Plus controller and decided to try out the Orbit Spigot Valve with Iris Control. Based on positive reviews, I was hopeful it would integrate smoothly. However, when I attempted to pair the valve using the generic Zigbee wizard, I noticed something odd—the blue “add device now” bar at the top of my GUI page never appeared. After several attempts, the valve still didn’t pair. Frustrated but determined, I reached out to Vera customer support.
After a lengthy wait, their response indicated that my Zigbee radio was set to device 3, which was already occupied by another device (PLEG). They provided a URL command to force the Vera Plus into Zigbee pairing mode. This worked temporarily—the blue bar appeared, and the valve paired successfully! But the joy was short-lived. The Vera Plus entered a terminal boot loop, cycling through restarts so quickly that Vera Alerts couldn’t even notify me.
With patience, I managed to access the devices list on the GUI, but the valve wasn’t there. Resetting the Zigbee network and clearing deleted/unknown devices stopped the restarting, but I was back to square one. The wizard still didn’t bring up the blue bar, and I’m now waiting for further assistance from Vera support.
This experience has been both frustrating and enlightening. It’s reminded me how important it is to thoroughly research device compatibility and Zigbee network management. I’d love to hear from others who’ve faced similar challenges—how did you resolve them? What tips or tricks do you have for maintaining a stable Zigbee network?
On a lighter note, despite the setbacks, I’m still excited about the potential of Zigbee devices. They offer such flexibility and integration possibilities, and I can’t wait to get my setup working smoothly again. Let’s keep the conversation going—share your stories, tips, and experiences! ![]()
