Hi everyone, I’ve been diving into the world of Zigbee integration lately and wanted to share my thoughts and experiences. I’ve been using Z-Wave for a while now, but the cost of new devices has me considering adding Zigbee to my setup. I’m curious about the best way to go about this.
I’ve heard great things about both the Tradfri hub and zigbee2mqtt, but I’m not entirely sure which path to take. With Z-Wave, I had some issues with zwave2mqtt, particularly with HA not remembering entities across reboots. This delay in node discovery was frustrating, especially with battery-powered devices. I’m wondering if zigbee2mqtt suffers from the same problem or if it’s more reliable.
On the other hand, using a Tradfri hub seems appealing because it could provide some resilience if HA goes down. Plus, placing the Zigbee network coordinator in an optimal spot might improve overall performance. But then there’s the option of connecting an XBee directly, which I’ve heard can be a good choice if it has the equivalent of zwcfg.xml. I’m torn between these options and would love to hear others’ experiences.
Has anyone successfully integrated Zigbee devices using any of these methods? What were your pros and cons? I’m also curious about how each setup handles device discovery and resilience. Any insights or recommendations would be invaluable!
Looking forward to hearing from the community and learning more about the best approach for my setup. Thanks in advance for your help!
