Hi everyone! I’ve been diving into the world of smart home automation lately, and I’m really excited about all the possibilities it offers. I’ve recently started planning a new project where I want to integrate some Zigbee micro switches behind my existing light switches. My goal is to pair these with Android tablets that I can customize with dashboards for a sleek, modern look.
I’ve heard a lot about Zigbee micro switches being cost-effective and fully supported, but I’m not entirely sure which ones are the best on the market right now. If anyone has any recommendations or experiences to share, I’d love to hear about them!
On another note, I’ve been experimenting with setting up conditional automation in Home Assistant. For instance, I want my garage lights to turn on at sunset and off at midnight, but I’d also like to add a new condition where if the garage door is open at 11 PM, I’d receive an alert. I’ve managed to set up some basic scripts using time platforms, but I’m a bit stuck on how to read the state of the garage door entity and trigger actions based on that. Any pointers or resources would be greatly appreciated!
It’s amazing how far home automation has come, but I can’t help but notice that interoperability still feels like a hurdle. I’ve noticed that many devices, especially from different manufacturers, often require their own sensors or hubs, which can get pretty complicated. I wonder if there’s a way to streamline this process or if there are any emerging technologies that might address this issue in the near future.
Overall, I’m really enjoying the journey of learning and experimenting with smart home tech. It’s a bit challenging at times, but the potential to create a truly integrated and efficient home environment makes it all worthwhile. Thanks to everyone in the community for sharing their knowledge and experiences—it’s been a huge help! ![]()
