Fibaro Dimmer 2: A Reliability Journey

I’ve been a user of the Fibaro Dimmer 2 (FGD-212) for several years now, and I must say, it’s been a mostly delightful experience. Initially, I paired these dimmers with SmartThings, and they worked flawlessly—consistent updates, smooth operation, and reliable performance. However, when I migrated my setup to Hubitat about a year ago, I encountered some unexpected challenges that have been quite the puzzle to solve.

The issue I’ve been facing is that a couple of my dimmers occasionally struggle to update their status correctly. For instance, the dimmer might report that a light is off when it’s actually on, or vice versa. This inconsistency has caused some headaches, especially when integrating these devices into automations using WebCore. The system sees the light as the correct state, so it doesn’t make the necessary adjustments, leading to lights staying on or off when they shouldn’t be.

I’ve tried a variety of troubleshooting steps to resolve this. I tidied up my Z-Wave network, removed a ghost device, and experimented with different drivers available for Hubitat, including Robin Winbourne’s, Eric Maycock’s, and the built-in one. I even did a factory reset on the devices and performed a Z-Wave repair, but nothing has consistently fixed the issue. It’s quite frustrating because the dimmers seem to work well for others, and I know they’re capable of reliable performance.

One of the most puzzling aspects of this problem is its randomness. I can’t consistently replicate the fault, which makes thorough troubleshooting difficult. I’ve read through forums and support threads, and while there are similar issues mentioned, there doesn’t seem to be a universal fix that works for everyone.

Despite the challenges, I remain optimistic. I’ve heard from other users who have found workarounds or solutions, and I’m hopeful that with some more tinkering and research, I’ll be able to get these dimmers working as smoothly as they did in the past. If anyone has any tips or insights, I’d be more than grateful to hear them!

In the meantime, I’m continuing to experiment with different settings and configurations, documenting each step carefully in hopes of identifying a pattern or a solution. It’s a bit of a journey, but I’m determined to crack this one. After all, the Fibaro Dimmer 2 has proven itself to be a robust and versatile device, and I’m eager to get it back to its best performance.
