I’ve been on a mission to find the best hidden door and window sensors for my smart home setup. After some research and trial, I’d like to share my experience and recommendations.
The Challenge:
My windows and doors are triple-glazed, which means I need sensors that are extremely slim—max 29mm wide and around 12mm thick. The Shelly BLU DW was an option, but it’s a bit too bulky for my setup. Plus, it’s not Z-Wave, which is a deal-breaker for me since I’m using Home Assistant.

Another great option I stumbled upon is the EcoProducts Door/Window Sensor. It’s slightly thicker than the Aqara but still within my size constraints. What I love about this sensor is its reliability—it’s been consistently detecting door movements without any issues.
Installation Tips:
- Placement: Make sure to place the sensors as close as possible to ensure a strong magnetic connection. I found that a gap of less than 5mm works best.
- Alignment: Proper alignment is key. I used a small ruler to ensure both the sensor and magnet were perfectly aligned.
- Testing: After installation, I ran a quick test by opening and closing the door several times to ensure the sensor was working as expected.
