Hey everyone, I wanted to share my recent experience with updating the firmware on my APC Smart-UPS 500. It was a bit of a rollercoaster, but I managed to figure it out in the end! ![]()
So, I received a notification on the SmartConnect portal about a firmware update for my UPS. Excited to get the latest features, I immediately tried to run the update. But alas, I kept getting the error message: ‘The current UPS state is not compatible with running a firmware upgrade.’
I checked the usual suspects—battery status, overload, temperature—and everything seemed fine. The battery was at 77°F, well within the recommended range. I even shut down the UPS and ran diagnostics, which passed without any issues. But the update just wouldn’t budge!
After some digging, I stumbled upon the APC documentation which mentioned that the ambient temperature should ideally be 75°F or below for firmware updates. I adjusted the air conditioning to bring the temperature down to 73°F and retried the update. Fingers crossed, but it still didn’t work. Ugh!
I decided to reach out to the community for advice. Someone suggested checking if the UPS was in a ‘cool, dry location’ as specified in the docs. I realized that while the temperature was within range, the placement of the UPS might still be an issue. I moved it to a slightly cooler spot and retried the update. This time, it worked like a charm! ![]()
It was a bit frustrating at first, but problem-solving always feels rewarding. I now have the latest firmware, which means better performance and peace of mind. If anyone else is struggling with firmware updates, don’t hesitate to ask for help—this community is amazing! ![]()
Happy updating everyone! ![]()
