As a long-time user of the Arlo Essential XL 2nd Gen cameras, I’ve experienced the frustration of firmware updates that often disrupt functionality. The latest update, 1.4.3_847_b21d876, unfortunately caused issues with motion detection and Wi-Fi connections, rendering the cameras unreliable for weeks. While the subsequent update, 1.5.0_1048_85f53f3, resolved these issues, it wasn’t available to all cameras simultaneously, leading to a prolonged period of inconvenience.
This experience has made me realize the importance of having control over firmware updates. I’d love to see Arlo introduce a feature that allows users to approve or decline firmware updates, ensuring that we only install necessary updates when our devices are functioning optimally. Additionally, it would be incredibly helpful if firmware updates were made available to all cameras of the same model and account at the same time, eliminating the frustrating wait for each device to receive the update.
I believe that as owners of these devices, we should have the autonomy to manage updates in a way that best suits our needs. Arlo’s products are fantastic, and with a bit more control over firmware updates, they could become even better. I’m curious to hear others’ experiences and thoughts on this matter—has anyone else faced similar challenges, or perhaps found a workaround?
