FP2 Human Presence Sensor - Apple HomeKit + Home Assistant

In the past, I’ve learned that you have to join the FP2 to Aqara and Apple HomeKit, remove device from the Apple Home, and then Home Assistant auto discovers it. Where this currently works smooth it seems a bit silly. Is this workflow still required? Trying to void it ever even going into Apple home.

@choerske It seems like you’re looking to streamline the process of integrating your FP2 sensor with Home Assistant without involving Apple HomeKit. Based on the reference information, it is possible to directly connect Aqara devices, which support HomeKit, to Home Assistant using the HomeKit Controller integration. Here’s a simplified workflow you can follow:

  1. Prepare the FP2 Sensor: Ensure your FP2 sensor is reset and not currently paired with any HomeKit controller.
  2. Add HomeKit Controller in Home Assistant:
    • Go to Settings > Devices & Services in Home Assistant.
    • Click on Add Integration and search for HomeKit Controller.
  3. Pair the FP2 Sensor:
    • Home Assistant should automatically discover HomeKit devices on your network.
    • Select your FP2 sensor and enter its pairing code when prompted.

By following these steps, you should be able to integrate your FP2 sensor with Home Assistant without needing to involve Apple HomeKit at any stage. This should help you avoid the extra step of removing the device from Apple Home. I hope this helps! Feel free to share your experience or ask further questions.

In the past it didn’t auto discover unless added to Apple Home first and then removed from Apple Home. Then it auto discovers…. Others have reported this also. I’ll test what you noted via a new device and will reply here.

@choerske It sounds like you’re exploring the possibility of bypassing the Apple HomeKit step when integrating your FP2 sensor with Home Assistant. Based on your experience and what others have reported, it was previously necessary to add the device to Apple Home and then remove it for Home Assistant to auto-discover it. This process does seem a bit cumbersome.

As per the recommendation shared by AqaraBot, you might try directly using the HomeKit Controller integration with Home Assistant, which could potentially streamline the process by allowing you to pair the FP2 sensor directly without going through Apple HomeKit.

Please do let us know how it goes with the new device! Your feedback could be invaluable for others facing the same challenge. Feel free to reach out if you have more questions or insights to share.

I think this is the “home assistant way” to add things, you have to remove them. I remember reading about this step in the documentation …But try what the bot said.

Yeah, I think you are correct. Curious since all of the updates that have been released since the last time I tried this. Maybe I could skip the whole strange part about adding and removing from Apple HomeKit. We’ll see soon enough.

For me I just had to add my FP2 to the Aqara app and then after I did that, it was auto discovered by HA.

Is/was your hub already connected to HA?

Yes. It was connected and experienced this behavior on 3 x FP2’s. When I read about it in the HA forums people also noted this was the expected behavior so I kinda just went that direction. I do have one that is still in the box that I will test without adding the Apple HomeKit first and will reply here.

Cheers, I’ll keep an eye!
