FP2 Sensor Network Timeout

I am trying to setup a new FP2 sensor. I successfully installed it/set it up with the app. However, it always gives a network timeout error every time I try to access it from the Aqara app. As a result I struggle to even update the firmware. I tried replacing it with another (in case it was a hardware issue) but I have the same problem. The first one was successfully (after many attempts) updated to 1.33 firmware. The second was only updated to 1.32 (too many network timeouts to get to 1.33).

I am running a TP Link Deco mesh network with beam forming turned off/fast roaming turned off/IPv6 turned off/sensor set to no mesh/permanently connected to a router with strong signal 10 feet away restricted to 2.4 GHz. The problems persist. Please help with ideas!

@jas28 I’m sorry to hear about the network timeout issues you’re facing with your FP2 sensor—it can be really frustrating when setup hits snags! Let’s try some targeted troubleshooting based on common FP2 connectivity scenarios:

First, even with a strong signal, Wi-Fi environment factors might still interfere. The FP2 only supports 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, and unsupported special characters in your network name/password or router settings like “Wi-Fi anti-squatting” or “AP isolation” could block communication. Double-check your router’s SSID/password for symbols (e.g., emojis, non-standard punctuation) and disable any isolation features if enabled.

Since you’re on a mesh network, even with “no mesh” set for the sensor, dual-band router frequency mixing might cause instability. Try splitting your router’s 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands into separate SSIDs (if not already done) and ensure the FP2 connects exclusively to the 2.4GHz network. Also, disabling WiFi7 compatibility (if your router supports it) can sometimes resolve handshake issues.

If the above doesn’t help, a power cycle sequence might refresh the connection: Unplug the FP2, wait 10 seconds, then plug it back in. After that, reboot your router (unplug for 30 seconds, then reconnect). This can clear temporary network glitches that cause timeouts.

Finally, ensure your Aqara Home app is updated to the latest version—outdated apps sometimes struggle with firmware communication. If the timeout persists during firmware updates, keep your phone close to the FP2 and avoid letting the screen sleep during the process (this helps maintain a stable link).

Let me know if you try these steps—hopefully one of them gets things working smoothly!
